Seabed foundation stability around offshore detached breakwaters

چکیده
In this study, a three-dimensional (3D) model is adopted to investigate the problem of fluid-seabed-structure interactions (FSSI) around offshore detached breakwaters. The Volume-Averaged Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (VARANS) equations are used simulate 3D fluid motion in vicinity breakwaters, including reflected, diffracted waves and non-linear turbulence. partially dynamic Biot’s (i.e., u−p approximations) poro-elastoplastic constitutive describe fluid-seabed porous seabed. A one-way coupling algorithm established integrate seabed response. By using present model, study addresses long term cyclic loading induced response liquefaction potential loosely packed foundation. addition, effects perpendicular longshore currents on hydrodynamic properties also taken into account. numerical results reveal that loose sandy breakwaters experienced gradual decrease stiffness until occurs under successive cycles. Longshore tend exacerbate wave field increase risk foundation, especially shallow soil layer near surface.

Offshore geohazards and seabed mobility
This research stream is focussed on offshore hazards, with particular attention to the mobility of the seabed – whether through large scale geological events, or local scale sediment transport processes. This report is divided into two broad areas. We have extensive activity to report on the subject of seabed mobility, through studies around the O-Tube program (see also the separate report on t...
متن کاملOffshore/Onshore foundation programs: student perspective
This presentation reports on a study of the educational quality and cultural sensitivity of foundation programs operated by Australian universities. The initial phase of the project, that involved a literature review and interviews with coordinators, identified two key issues: the quality of education and cultural sensitivity. Quality of education included academic standards of offshore courses...
متن کاملImaging of detached shells around the carbon stars
We present the first optical images of scattered light from large, detached gas/dust shells around two carbon stars, R Scl and U Ant, obtained in narrow band filters centred on the resonance lines of neutral K and Na, and in a Strömgren b filter (only U Ant). They confirm results obtained in CO radio line observations, but also reveal new and interesting structures. Towards R Scl the scattering...
متن کاملDetermining Natural Frequency of Free Spanning Offshore Pipelines by Considering the Seabed Soil Characteristics
Free spans or suspended spans normally occur in subsea pipelines due to the irregularity of seabed and byscouring phenomena around the installed non-buried pipeline. The hydrodynamic around the pipeline canlead to a vibration of the pipeline. This kind of vibration may cause fatigue damage to the pipeline. In orderto study the hydrodynamic around the pipeline, calculating the natural frequency o...
متن کاملFoundation damping and the dynamics of offshore wind turbine monopiles
The contribution of foundation damping to offshore wind turbines (OWTs) is not well known, though researchers have back-calculated foundation damping from “rotor-stop” tests after estimating aerodynamic, hydrodynamic, and structural damping with numerical models. Because design guidelines do not currently recommend methods for determining foundation damping, it is typically neglected. This pape...
